Gary Lee Sewell

Fiercely devoted to those he loved, Gary was the kind of person who would give anyone the shirt off his back. His smile could light up a room, and he had a remarkable gift for turning strangers into friends wherever he went. His warmth, compassion, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Gary cherished being surrounded by his family, and some of his most treasured memories were the moments spent with his devoted wife, Donna. Celebrating 25 years of marriage this year, they shared a bond built on unwavering love, strength, and dedication. Through life's medical and personal challenges, they cared for one another with remarkable commitment and companionship, serving as an example of enduring love.

And Gary’s last few weeks were made joyful (and challenging) by he addition of a 4-month-old borderdoodle named Mossy. She went everywhere he did. He was in love and working to train her, even on the day he went to the hospital. It was joy to see.

An outdoorsman at heart, Gary especially loved the mountains and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. He also had a special connection with animals, and they seemed to love him just as much as he loved them. He was always eager to learn new ways to care for and work with animals, a passion that brought him great joy.

Gary also found happiness in his work. He was dedicated and hardworking in his many and varied jobs, working at Coca Cola and pouring concrete with his nephews. But his most loved job was at Denver International Airport, first at Frontier then at Swissport. He worked hard, confounded many, irritated some but never failed to get the job done. Along the way he made friends with many and touched many more. And… HE JUST LOVED AIRPLANES!

Above all, Gary was an amazing husband, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness, warmth, and steadfast support touched countless lives. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he made brighter.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Juanita (Deibert) Sewell; his brother, Robert Sewell; and his sister, Mary McCarvel.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna (Thomas) Sewell; his sisters, Betty (Sewell) Elkins and Bonnie (Sewell) Simpson; his brother, John Sewell and John's wife Donna (Kuntz) Sewell; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Gary's legacy of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St Theresa Catholic Church, 5503 Bella Rosa Parkway, Frederick, CO 80504, on August 7, 2026, at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the Mass.
