George was one of eight children born to Wendelin Bickler and Anna (Volk) Bickler. At age 20 he joined the Marines, serving for three years until his discharge in January of 1961. On October 21, 1961, he married Jeanette A. Hoffart. They were married for 61 years before his passing. Together George and Jan owned a bar in North Dakota for a few years before deciding to move to Colorado in 1968. After moving, George worked several jobs including Longmont Foods and truck driving for C.R. England. He eventually switched to being an RTD bus driver, a job he loved doing. For 17 years he drove for RTD, and some of his favorite moments were the interactions he had with the people who were on his route. It always made him smile.
Another way George liked to spend his time was making sausage and beef jerky. He had a shop in Longmont for a while but decided he preferred making sausage at home in his sausage shed.
George is preceded in death by his parents Wendelin and Anna Bickler, his sisters Dorothy Gamble, Florence Vetter, and Mary Keele, and his brothers Ben Bickler, Joe Bickler, and Chris Bickler. He is survived by his wife Jeanette of Brighton, CO, his sons Robert (Gina) Bickler of Lakewood, CO, David (Tina) Bickler of Cape Coral, Florida and daughter Nancy (Mark) Gray of Keenesburg, CO, his sister Mildred Bohl of Great Falls, MT, his 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services for George were held on January 16, 2023. A graveside committal for George will be held at 1:30 PM Monday February 13, 2023 at the Fort Logan National Cemetery located at 4400 W. Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236.
