Georgia Kathryn Leftwich, age 93, died at the Beatrice Hover Assisted Living Residence on November 15, 2009. She was born on February 5, 1916 in Denton, Texas to Walter and Georgia Anne Kirkpatrick. After the death of her father, her mother and three little girls moved to west Texas where her mother was principal of a two-room country school. After graduating from Littlefield High School, she attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock and taught school for several years before enrolling in nurses training at the Lubbock Sanitarium School of Nursing. She met Eugene Lair Leftwich and they were married in 1937. In 1948 they moved to Longmont and established Gene's Texas Hamburgers on Main Street. Gene made the hamburgers, chili and Longhorn's (a signature dish) and Georgia was famous for her pies, especially Texas Cream Pie and Texas Pecan Pie. They operated this little restaurant for 30 years and then sold it in order to retire. Georgia was not happy with retirement and went to work for Walters and Hogsett Jewelers for the next ten years. She then worked as a volunteer in the kindergarten with teacher Kathy Anderson, at Central School for the next eight years. Due to several falls, she had to give up her work. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and superintendent of the Junior Sunday School Department for several years. She was active in the Primetimers Sunday School Class and the ELR Circle. Her husband Gene Leftwich; two sisters, Geraldine Walker and Lois Bonner; and her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by one son, Dr. Robert Leftwich of Augusta, Georgia; two nieces, Georgeann Rascoe of Dallas, Texas and Nelda Monroe of Amarillo, Texas; one nephew Neal Walker of Littlefield, Texas; and a very special friend Wendy Borgmann of Longmont. Visitation will be held at Howe Mortuary from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2009 followed by a Funeral service at 10:00 a.m. with Pastors Tom Hovestal and Steve Easterday-McPadden officiating. Burial will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to ELR Circle at Calvary Church, Longs Peak United Methodist Church or HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
