

Hawley was born September 19, 1935 in Denver, CO. He was adopted when he was two years of age, and raised and nurtured by Hawley B. Ansell Sr. and Alice (Cochran) Ansell. During Hawley’s younger years, his enthusiasm included softball and track. Hawley graduated from Denver Public Schools, and later attended Emily Griffith Technical College to advance his skills. Hawley married Dorothy Sterkel on June 7, 1959.
Hawley worked for Slack Horner Foundry for 30 years as a Supply Chain Lead Shipper. He also worked as a district deliver lead, delivering milk, greeting each customer with positive greeting and always went the extra mile to assure they were taken care of. Before retirement, Hawley spent endless hours as a Head Custodian for the Longmont School District. The staff and children adored him. Hawley exemplified a light hearted sense of humor. He was always willing to lend a hand to help mow, shovel snow, paint or run errands for others.
Hawley's hobbies were collecting beautiful oil lamps and sharing time with family. He adored his walks with Dorothy and eating lunch with her and her bank friends. He liked to visit all the folks at the Longmont Senior Community Center, playing cards, board games and doing puzzles together. He watched golf, football, and baseball and cheered on the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. He had a passion for gardening. He and Dorothy shared, admired and cared for their rose garden together. He enjoyed mowing the lawn and caring for his home. He often shared his talent of drawing comic strips. His favorite artist was Charles Schultz. He loved Jazz music and whistling. Hawley was gifted, not only with a beautiful voice, but also with many hidden creative talents. He was skilled in architectural blueprints and building units and was very knowledgeable in all things construction related. He loved spending time, chatting, and celebrating with Dorothy and he loved eating amazing yummy meals she prepared. Hawley loved classic cars and driving Hot Rods during his teen years. He was intrigued by locomotive trains. Hawley loved to travel with his wife Dorothy in their motorhome throughout the U.S. to visit family. They liked to visit Branson and enjoyed live shows. Hawley knew how to live and enjoy precious life.
Hawley was preceded in death by his parents, Hawley Sr. and Alice Ansell, adopted sister Ruth Ann, wife Dorothy Ansell, son Jeffrey Ansell and by his granddaughter Heather Comstock. He leaves behind treasured and cherished memories, and a host of family this includes his daughter Holly Comstock (Josh), daughter in law Connie Ansell, grandchildren Katrina Wood and Jeffrey Ansell Jr. (Jennifer), great grandchildren Ashley, Cody, Tyler & Courtney Ansell and Anthony Wood. Hawley will be deeply missed, by family, friends and anyone who was blessed by his life.
A Celebration of Hawley's life took place on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont, CO. Hawley was laid to rest with his beloved Dorothy at Greenlawn Cemetery in Berthoud, CO. Donations can be made in Hawley's memory to The Alzheimer's Association.
