

Hazel A. ""Pat"" Kness, of Longmont, Colorado, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Longmont United Hospital. She was 93 years old. Pat, as she was known to family and friends, was born November 27, 1912 in Bethany, Illinois to Charley Sloan and Ivadene (Florey) Sloan. At the age of 3, she moved with her family to Colorado. She grew up between Wiggins and Ft. Morgan and later in Johnstown. On April 7, 1929, she married Charles Kness in Denver. The couple made their home in Climax and Leadville before settling in Longmont in 1968. As a homemaker, Mrs. Kness worked hard to raise her five children. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Colorado Chapter #2 in Leadville and was later involved in the Longmont chapter. She was also a member of the Past Matrons Club. Pat volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels and had been a member of the Baptist Church in Vallery, Colorado. She is survived by her sons, Charles R. Kness and his wife, Rhea, of Grand Junction, and John J. Kness of Loveland; and daughters, Betty Jean Held of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Patricia Deulen and her husband, Richard, of Poncha Springs. Ten grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren further survive her. Mrs. Kness was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on January 14, 1972; her brother, Flavel ""Flake"" Sloan; and a daughter, Jennifer Lambert. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Howe Mortuary. Interment will be in the Johnstown Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Longmont Meals on Wheels, 910 Longs Peak Avenue, Longmont, CO 80501.
