

Laurine Kohn, age 89 of Boulder died Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Atria of Longmont. Laurine was born September 15, 1924 in North Platte, Nebraska to Henry and Gertrude (Minshall) Hansen. After graduating from high school, Laurine attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She then moved to California for a time and moved to Boulder in 1952, where she worked for CU Boulder, starting as an administrative assistant and working her way up to graduate student advisor before retiring after 33 years.
Laurine was described as strong willed and independent and raised four children by herself. She was President of the Alpha XI Delta sorority and was associated with Phi Beta Kappa Key Ho. Laurine was also a member of the National Honor Society and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder. Laurine had several hobbies including hiking, camping, traveling, rafting and anything to do with the outdoors. She was an avid reader, loved her family and her ranch in North Platte, Nebraska. She loved all animals, especially her dogs and was an “amazing” cook with her specialty being fried chicken and gourmet gravy.
Survivors include; two sons, Jerry Kohn and his wife Paula of Livermore, California and David Kohn and his wife Priscilla of Boulder; two daughters; Laura Koch of Boulder and Becky Casmey of Longmont. In addition Laurine is survived by eight grandchildren; Diane Kohn of Boulder, Shannon Koch of Boulder, Michael Kohn and his wife Ally of Boulder, Sean Casmey of Longmont, Dustin Kohn of Boulder, Alex Kohn of Livermore, California and Jackson and Corbin Casmey of Longmont. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Longmont with burial at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder Friday, October 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the humane society of their choice. The family would like to thank the staff of The Atria of Longmont and Family Care Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to their mother.
