

Helen Alveda Yeager McCarty Hanna, 98, of Longmont, Colorado died peacefully on April 28, 2016. Helen was born on January 30, 1918 to Harry Yeager and Alveda Johnson Yeager in the family home built by her grandfather, Andrew W. Johnson, on the homestead. She and her brothers, Bob, Glenn, Carl and Hal attended country school through the eighth grade. The Yeager children and their cousins, the Lunds, walked across the family farms to the Beasley Country School. Helen attended Longmont High School and graduated with honors in 1935. Following graduation she worked in Dr. Finnell's office in downtown Longmont. Helen spoke fondly of her work assisting patients. Helen met Horace G. McCarty in Longmont. Helen and Horace were married at the Yeager family home on October 12, 1938.Helen and Horace made their home in Longmont, where Horace practiced law for many years. They raised four sons on 9th Avenue. Helen lent a listening ear and was a mother to many through the years. Horace died in September, 1981. Helen moved back to the Johnson-Yeager family home and farm where she was born and raised, in 1989. Helen loved the farm and enjoyed the twenty-five years of retirement that she lived there. In 1998, Helen married William J. Hanna. Helen and Bill both loved their homes, and spent time at Bill's home in Boulder canyon and on the farm. Helen and Bill enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends. They attended both the Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont and the First Presbyterian Church in Boulder. Helen was a 50-year member at Central, serving as an Elder, a member of Priscilla Circle for decades and being very involved. Bill died in May, 2013. Helen was an active member of the Longmont Music Club, Help Each Other (HEO), Country Club, Columbine Chapter #11 Order of Eastern Star and Monday's. Helen learned to play the piano as a child, and enjoyed playing until she was in her mid-nineties. When she wasn't playing the piano, she loved listening to music. Helen was a Republican precinct chairperson for thirty years, just as her mother, Veda, was for thirty years before her. She loved flowers, gardens and cooking.Helen was predeceased by her sons, Dan and Tim, her husbands Horace and Bill, her brothers and their wives, and her cousins. She is survived by her son, Mick (Darlene) and their children, Mary Helen (Bret) and Mark (Emmanuelle), all of Cody Wyoming. She is also survived by her son, Pat (Kathy) and their children, Dan (Morgan), Heather (Brandon) all of Parachute, Colorado and Jamie of Laramie, Wyoming. Her great-grandchildren are Anna (Jared), Sara, David, Sebastien and Matthieu all of Cody, Wyoming and Samantha and Colton of Parachute, Colorado. Helen is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and her cousins' children. Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 2, 2016, at CENTRALongmont (Central Presbyterian Church) in Longmont, Colorado followed by internment at Greenlawn Cemetery in Berthoud, Colorado.
