

Helen Beatrice Lilly Mitchell, 94, passed from this world into the presence of her beloved Jesus on November 22, 2016. Born in 1922 to Dr. Milton Judson Lilly and Henrietta Hope Lilly, she grew up and went to school in Fraziers Bottom, West Virginia.She graduated from Marshall College with a degree in English. In 1944 she was married to Cebert Arden Mitchell on leave from the army during WWII. Helen was a teacher for several years before becoming a full time wife and homemaker. She and her family moved to Laramie, Wyoming in 1951, to Carpenter, Wyoming in 1962 and to Longmont in 1965. In 1962 Helen took up teaching again for three years in Carpenter and then in St. Vrain Valley for eight years. Through the years she taught English, History, Civics, Latin, Remedial Reading, and Social Studies.She was an active member of Calvary Church in Longmont. Helen loved traveling, camping, fishing, playing the piano, working in her raspberries, making jellies and applesauce, playing games, and welcoming people into her home. Mostly she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. This love took her to different parts of the U.S., to Peru a dozen times and to Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cebert Arden Mitchell, five sisters and one brother.She is survived by her four children, Phil (Nancy) Mitchell, Stephen (Sherry) Mitchell, Ellen (Ralph) Shepard, and Anne (Kim) Hansen, as well as 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, November 25, 2016, at Calvary Church with visitation prior to the service in Longmont. Interment at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Joni & Friends or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch c/o of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
