Much love and prayers to the family of Dr. Mooney. Such a sweet man and he saved my life. And I always told him that when I saw him again and brought him cookies to the office and thanked him everytime I saw him at the LAC and so did my hubby.  
I went in with ruptured appendix that had been ruptured for 2 weeks so Dr. Mooney had his job cut out for him. After two weeks in the hospital and lucky to be alive I went home and he was so sweet to come to my house a couple time in his little (yellow?) bug car.  Such a small car for a big man - big in stature and heart and more!  I'm so thankful he was my surgeon and saved my life and so is my husband Doug and my 2 kids. God bless you and love you,  Dr. Mooney and your family.

Forever grateful that he saved my life with an emergency surgery October 2007. I am so lucky to have been in his hands.

My Appendectomy
One day -- eight or nine years ago, I was feeling poorly and went to see my favorite doctor, Pat Wherry (God rest his beautiful soul).  He suspected appendicitis and called his good friend and colleague, Dr. Herbert Mooney.  Dr. Mooney came to Pat’s office to examine me.  (This kind of doctor behavior was unheard of even back then!)  I will never forget his words, “You need to go to the hospital young lady.  I will call them up so you can walk right in and sign a release form.”  I arrived at Longmont United with no ER charge and no waiting.  Within two hours time, I was in the OR having a laparoscopic appendectomy.  I stayed overnight and Dr. Mooney checked on me more than two times.  A couple of months later, I called his office to report I had not received my portion of the bill, and his receptionist, Lynn Kingston, said, “Oh…he won’t charge you more than what your insurance paid.  He just enjoys doing surgery!”  I asked to speak to him in order to thank him for his kind generosity and he said…”You work at Valleylab, is that correct?  Can you get me and my wife some of those blue surgical clogs?  She’s a nurse and I wear size large and she wears a small.”  So I dropped the clogs off at his office and he said, “Now we’re even!”  What an amazing doctor and what a wonderful human being.  I have always felt blessed to have met him under such remarkable circumstances.   I am so sorry for your loss.

I will always remember that smile, great laugh and his eyes looking through those round glasses. Doc Mooney will always have a special place in my heart.  
Hold onto all of those beautiful memories and he will always be close. I love you guys!

Dr. Mooney was an exceptional person, doctor and mentor. He was also one of the kindest people I ever met and a great teacher. He never turned away a referral regardless of ability to pay. He remembered and cared about each and every patient.
I felt a special closeness to Dr Mooney because he reminded me of my father who was also a surgeon, close in age and similarly special in his rapport with people. And he often reminded me that his daughter was a nurse practitioner like I am. It was a nice bond.
He will live in my heart forever for his generous spirit and big easy smile.
May the memories of him always bring you peace and joy.

Dear Chris and family~  Dr. Mooney was a very special man, he served on our Board of Directors as well as attended many of our meetings over the years.  He was ""one in a million"".  Such a good hearted person, and as everyone who knew him, he spoke frankly.
Chris we are here for you should you need anything, all you need do is ask.

Our family really appreciated Herb helping us when our dad got sick a couple of years ago. He always showed a lot of care and compassion in everything he did and I remember his humor when parties were held at the house.

I want to express my sympathy to Chris and Dr. Mooney’s family, and my appreciation for the great care, friendliness, and comfort he gave me during my illness many years ago.

I hate it that the end had to come after he had seemed to win the battle. Hopefully the entire family will realize what a tremendous service he provided to Longmont and Loveland for so many years. His professional life was an example of marked professionalism and complete dedication to his patients. He will be missed by many and very difficult if not impossible to replace.

So Sorry to hear the news about Dr. Mooney.  Dr Mooney was an integral part of the development and success of The Longmont Surgery Center. We shared so many experiences during those years of which I have many, many terrific memories. I am so grateful to have been a part of all that and to have known and worked with Dr Mooney for so many years. To the Mooney family-

So sad to hear of Herb's passing. I have so many great memories of the good Doctor over the last 40 years....dinners with the family, rounds of golf, trips to the old Vail house, life stories and advice, etc. Herb always treated me like a son, and I'll always love him for that.
