Jack was born February 22nd, 1929, in Grand Junction Colorado. He helped his family grow and sell peaches in the summer and the rest of the year he attended Palisades High School, graduating in 1947. He had a keen mind for math and science so he was thrilled when the Colorado School of Mines accepted him to their engineering program.
At the School of Mines Jack signed up for ROTC, and after finishing school with a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Refining Engineering he joined the army as a second lieutenant. He was in the Occupation Forces in Korea and served with a firefighting unit at Camp Hale.
Jack met his wife Melba in high school and they dated briefly. While still in the army he came home and proposed to her. They were married in 1954, eloping in the middle of the night, much to the consternation of their families.
After being honorably discharged from the army as a first lieutenant, Jack came back to Colorado and accepted an engineering job at what would eventually be known as British Petroleum (BP). He worked for them from 1954 until his early retirement in 1986.
Once retired Jack and Melba traveled extensively all around the world. Due to his gregarious nature he loved meeting and interacting with people from different cultures, and the two of them had lots of crazy adventures.
Jack had a relentless work ethic so when not kissing random (surprised) Frenchmen on the cheeks he was usually busy with some type of project. He performed extensive remodeling work on their home in Longmont and took classes to become a Master Gardener. He was always available for anyone who needed help, as evidenced by his 30-plus year commitment to delivering for Meals on Wheels.
His math-challenged children, John and Susan, will remember how he used to patiently help them with their schoolwork in the evenings. In the summertime he coached Little League, played golf with John, worked in the yard, and took his family on epic camping trips in Colorado and Wyoming, as well as one memorable drive to Mexico.
There are not many football fans who loved the Denver Broncos as much as Jack. He had season tickets even when he lived in Casper, Wyoming, nearly 300 miles away. He and Melba flew to San Diego for the 1998 Super Bowl but couldn't find last-minute tickets, so they watched the game at a local California sports bar. When the Broncos beat the Packers Jack danced around like a madman... until a waitress came by and asked him to kindly get down off the table!
Jack is survived by his wife Melba, son John, daughter Susan, four grandchildren (Kyle, Megan, Autumn, and Antonio), and four great grandchildren (Braxtyn, Averii, Ryder, and Kailon). He will be lovingly remembered by his family and absolutely everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to Meals on Wheels as an expression of sympathy in loving memory of Jack Dale Cutter.
