Jack Eugene Dayhoff

After attending Kremmling High School, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army. While on leave, he married Jean Saleh of Boulder, CO, on October 6, 1956. The couple made their home in Boulder for over 40 years, as Jack was determined to provide a consistent location to raise his family. The couple resided in Erie at the time of his passing.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Jean; his daughters, Kathlyn Dayhoff (Rick Meis) of Broomfield and Carolee Jacobsen (John) of Tuttle, OK; grandchildren, Eli Hodapp (Sarah) of Fort Collins, Kenlyn Hodapp (Lauren Yauk) of Portland, OR, Kevin Jacobsen of Firestone, and Keith Jacobsen (Lindsay Mullineaux) of Missoula, MT; and great-grandchildren, Viola Hodapp and Cassidy Jacobsen. Jack passed away July 19, 2026.

Jack lived by a code of hard work, integrity, and a keen sense of doing what needed to be done. He spent his earliest working years driving a truck and working in construction before becoming employed by Public Service. He was aptly named, for he truly was a “Jack” of all trades. He always figured out how to make or fix things around the house, was an extraordinary mechanic and craftsman, and always made the most of his resources.

During one of the big snowstorms when his daughters were little, he carried them in their Halloween costumes from door to door so they could enjoy a little fun; he simply didn’t want them to miss out. Another time, when the Bronco got dirty while four-wheeling, he found a stream and a pan just to wash it. He always found a way to make things work throughout his life. Jack truly loved sharing the beauty and wonder of the world with his family, especially the mountains of Colorado and the outdoors of the western United States.

His greatest joys were simple but meaningful: making sure his family was taken care of, fixing and maintaining the cars and house, and being present for his daughters' and grandchildren's activities. From 1980 to 1995, few things gave him more pride than his cars, which he kept so meticulously clean that people often assumed they'd been trailered into shows rather than driven. He loved every mile, taking his prized cars across the country to car shows with Jean and occasionally a grandchild or two. He also loved accompanying Jean and the crew to the College Women’s Basketball Tournaments, fishing with his brother, Ronnie, taking many road trips, and spending quality time with his family. He lived a meaningful life and will be held in the memories of his family and missed deeply.

A Graveside Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Green Mountain Cemetery, located at 290 20th Street, in Boulder, Colorado.

A Celebration of Jack's Life and Reception will take place at 12:00 PM on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Howe Mortuary & Crematory, located at 439 Coffman Street, in Longmont, Colorado.

Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
