James Clifford Hickman

Jim Hickman, 87, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, surrounded by his family at his home in Longmont, Colorado. His passing marks the end of a long and full life, and the beginning of a time for family and friends to remember the many moments, stories, and adventures that made Jim who he was.

Jim is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 51 years; his brother, Clair; his children, Bill, CIiff, Charlie, and Kate; and his grandchildren, Helen, James, Sydney, and Henrik. He was a thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and his family was an important part of his life. He took great pleasure in watching his children and grandchildren grow and in sharing time, conversation, laughter, and jokes with them.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Clifford, and his sister, Myrna.

Jim was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to lighten any moment with a quip or humorous story. He loved to laugh and share stories with his family, laughing late into the night reliving youthful antics. He will be remembered by the laughter and warmth that surrounded him.

Jim was also an accomplished fly fisherman and loved being outdoors. His wooden canoe was his favorite vehicle, when it was lashed atop his 4x4 Land Cruiser, the adventure began.

He had a lifelong appreciation for the beauty and peace of the natural world. This was manifest in his large collection of duck and loon sculptures, paintings, and figures. They filled the walls and shelves of his home, becoming part of his story and a keen reminder, when we see them in nature, of his enduring spirit.

Jim will be honored at a Celebration of Life at Howe Mortuary & Crematory, 439 Coffman St, Longmont, CO 80501, on September 25, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
