Jan Elizabeth DeRoin

February 11, 1952 – November 2, 2025
Obituary of Jan Elizabeth DeRoin
IN THE CARE OF

Howe Mortuary & Crematory

Jan was born in Beatrice, Nebraska and spent her early years growing up on the family farm near DeWitt, Nebraska. The family moved to Beatrice. Her dad continued to farm and her mother taught English at Beatrice High School. Jan graduated from Beatrice High School in 1970. She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science. After college, she attended Creighton Law School in Omaha; where she earned her J.D. She practiced private law for a short time and eventually became a trust officer at the First National Bank of Omaha.

She met her future husband, Dave, at a Labor Day party in 1976. They were married in August of 1977.

In 1992 they packed up their stuff, 2 kids and a dog and moved to Boise, Idaho. While there, she continued to work as a trust officer at First Security Bank until she started her own private practice specializing in estate planning. She retired in 2006.

After Dave retired in 2013, they moved to the mountains near New Meadows, Idaho.

They made their final move in July of 2024 to be close to their new granddaughter, Elizabeth in Colorado.

Jan's passion was reading, and she was no stranger to wine. She also enjoyed snorkeling, scuba diving, skiing and snowshoeing. Steak night or burger night at The Kahili Club in New Meadows was always a highlight of the week for the last few years.

Jan was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Plucknett, her mother Mary Jane (Fry) Plucknett, and two brothers, Ben and John. She is survived by her husband, Dave and two sons, David and Erik (wife Samantha) and of course granddaughter Elizabeth.

Dave is pretty sure Jan would be pleased if you drank a glass of wine in her memory.
