
Jan was born on October 19, 1938, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. She was one of three children born to John William and Betty Jane (Aiken) Hanes.
Jan earned her degree in nursing and worked as a nurse for many years. One of her greatest career achievements was helping to found the Pittsburgh Poison Center, which was the blueprint for poison centers across the United States. In her spare time, Jan was a skilled artist and drew covers for her Women’s Club of Baldwin Borough’s newsletter, of which she was an active member. She was also a master of bridge and loved to play cards.
Jan married her husband, George, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania on November 24th, 1960. She moved to Baldwin Borough in Pittsburgh, PA after marriage. Jan is survived by her daughters Rebecca Bauman Karch and Lisa Marie Lemmon; grandchildren, Nicholas Bauman Treat and Kellan Bauman Karch; and her brother, John Hanes.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, George Miller Bauman; parents John and Betty Hanes; and sister, Jane Leah Hanes.
Jan moved to Colorado in December of 2023 to be close to family.
Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
