Janice was born on December 21, 1937, to Marion Keith and Florence Johnson. She grew up in Sherman, New York, alongside her sisters Judy and Norma. She graduated from Sherman Central School and went on to attend Syracuse University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with the Class of 1959 - an achievement that reflected her lifelong dedication to excellence and hard work.
Janice was first married to Delbert Grant in 1960. They shared many years together with their son, Dale. In 1999, she married Hiram Nelson, who remained her devoted partner until the time of her passing.
As a Certified Public Accountant, Janice built a long and respected career beginning in 1960 and continuing until her retirement in 2018. She approached her profession with integrity, diligence, and dedication.
Janice had a deep love for Colorado. She enjoyed and took pride in being a longtime resident of Boulder and Lyons before moving to Longmont in 2020. She embraced the Colorado lifestyle wholeheartedly, enjoying hiking, cross-country skiing, windsurfing, and horseback riding. Horses held a special place in her heart; she and Hiram owned and cared for many horses over more than 30 years. She also adored the family dogs - Mila, Lucy, and Lana - who brought her great joy.
Her creative spirit shone through her love of sewing, needlepoint, crochet, and gardening. She took particular pride in her beautiful roses, tending to them with patience and care.
Janice is survived by her husband, Hiram Nelson of Longmont, Colorado; her son, Dale Grant of Louisville, Colorado; her grandchildren, Madison Page and Jordan Grant of Concord, New Hampshire; her great-grandchildren, Maisy, Jake, and June; her sister, Norma Warcup of Ava, New York; and her nieces and nephews, Kathy Markel, Karen Beckerink, Mike Warcup and Mark Warcup.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Keith and Florence Johnson; her first husband, Delbert Grant; and her sister, Judy Beckerink.
Janice will be remembered for her intelligence, independence, love of nature and animals, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colorado Horse Rescue, a cause close to Janice’s heart.
Service details will be announced at a later date.
