Janice Elizabeth Wherry

Janice Elizabeth (Fraley) Wherry, 67, of Longmont, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025. Born on December 14, 1957, in Carbondale, Illinois, Janice was the daughter of the late Dr. William Fraley and Sue (Raymond) Fraley.

A woman of deep spirit and radiant beauty, Janice was known for her love of glamour and her adventurous heart. Whether she was scuba diving through underwater caves, dog sledding through the Rockies, or fulfilling a lifelong dream of seeing a blue-footed booby in the wild, she approached life with awe and enthusiasm. But of all her journeys, her mission trips remained closest to her heart—reflecting her unwavering faith and her calling to serve others.

Janice had a deep love for animals from a young age. As a teenager, she was an award-winning barrel racer with a strong bond to horses, a passion that remained throughout her life. She especially cherished the companionship of her beloved dogs.

Professionally, Janice worked as a medical assistant, where she brought care and compassion to countless lives. Her ability to comfort, heal, and support others was a gift to those she served.

Janice was a proud mother to Nicholas, Elizabeth and Asher from her first marriage to Stephen Miller in 1978. She took pride in watching her children grow and launch into their own respective paths.

In 1991, she married the love of her life, Dr. Patrick Wherry. Together they shared many joyful years until his passing in 2010. They traveled often and made lasting memories throughout the world. With Pat’s three children and Janice’s three children they were often compared to the Brady Bunch.

She especially loved keeping in touch with her grandchildren- her phone calls were frequent and full of warmth and support. Family, in all its complexities, was always a part of her story.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr Patrick Wherry and parents, Dr William Fraley and Sue Fraley. She is survived by her three children, Nicholas Miller of Kingwood, Texas; Elizabeth Olsen (Craig) of Kingwood, Texas; and Asher Miller (Kate) of Frederick, Colorado. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Pierce Olsen, Austin Miller, Grace Olsen, Xavier Olsen, Lily Miller, and Sloane Olsen. Janice is also survived by her stepchildren Sean Wherry (Trina), Bregan Herrold (John), and Shannon McLinden (Matt); her stepmother, Joyce; her brothers, Dr. Stuart Fraley (Patti) and Luke Fraley (Kayla); and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held on September 5th at 2pm at Grace Community Church in Johnstown, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Grace Community Church or Longmont Humane Society.
