Jerry was born on February 16, 1940, in Callaway, Nebraska, to John A. Gschwind and Dorothy E. (Edwards) Gschwind. He grew up on the family farm in Brady, Nebraska, where he learned the value of hard work and developed the curiosity and determination that would guide him throughout his life.
He attended Brady High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Kearney State College in Nebraska. He later completed his master’s degree at Purdue University.
On May 21, 1971, Jerry married Karen A. Keough, and together they built a life filled with love and partnership. In 1983, they moved to the Longmont area from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Jerry spent his career with the Department of Defense, where he worked from June 1962 until his retirement in December 1993. He was also a member of the International Association of Geodesy, where his passion for precise, meaningful work was well recognized.
Raised Lutheran, Jerry chose not to participate in any particular religious denomination later in life, but he held strong personal values and an unwavering dedication to his family and interests.
Jerry had a lifelong love of flying drones and studying astronomy. Photography was his special gift—one he joyfully practiced and generously shared.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Karen A. Gschwind; daughters Charlotte Poss, Katrina Hayes, and Amanda Floodeen; brother James A. Gschwind; sisters Patricia Egenberger and Theresa Arentsen; and grandchildren Devin Hayes, Dallas Davis, Brooklyn Davis, Nicole Floodeen, Alexis Floodeen, Emma Gardner, Jace Floodeen; and his first wife Meridee Larson.
