Jay T. Higgs, beloved father, husband, uncle, and brother, passed away with peace in his bed sleeping in the morning hours of June 3, 2021. Jay was born on September 27, 1950 in Rushville, Indiana to the late Cletus and Imogene (Sharpe) Higgs.
Jay grew up in Rushville, Indiana and graduated from Rushville High School in 1968. Soon after finishing his associate degree in Computer Science, he decided to leave Indiana. Always looking for a new challenge, Jay decided to relocate to Phoenix, Arizona. However, as fate guides many people, it guided him on to Hunington Beach, California. This is where he met the love of his life, Catherine Lynn (Sleyster) Higgs whom he would later marry on May 1st, 1979. This changed his life for the best as they would go on to have 2 kids and stay together 20+ years until Catherine's passing in 2002.
Jay was a fixture in the construction industry in Colorado for 35+ years. He actually built our family home in Parker, Colorado. He was a great provider, and was always the "rock" in the Higgs Family. Even when he lost his beloved, Cathi, he still remained strong for his sons. Jay loved hard, lived large, played by his own rules, and had few regrets. He will always be remembered for his humor and the great example he set for those close to him.
Jay never stopped working or staying productive and active in his later years. For Jay, retirement was a bad word and believed staying busy was the key to happiness in old age. He was a huge blues and rock music fan and still attended shows into his later life. Jay enjoyed cruising in his Dodge Challenger, taking off for a long weekend in the mountains, or to New Mexico and Arizona. Family and friends were a huge part of his life as he cherished the times he had with all of the people he knew and loved.
Jay is survived by 2 sons, Jayson and Michael, 2 grandsons Jordan and Aidan, his two sisters Cindy Montgomery and Myra Clark, as well as his niece Amy Bridgeman and her two children, Katie and Kyle Porter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cletus and Imogene (Sharpe) Higgs, and his wife, Catherine Lynn (Sleyster) Higgs.
Jay's Life Celebration will take place on Saturday June 12th, 2021 from 2pm-9pm at his son, Michael's home in Longmont, Colorado 711 Rees Court.
