He attended John Jay High School in Cross River, NY, and college at Leicester Junior College in Worcester, MA, receiving an Applied Associates of Arts Degree. After college, he worked for his grandfather and later father at Meyer Gordon Jewelers in White Plains, NY.
After moving to Boulder County in 1983, he worked for David Ellis Jewelers and Korts Jewelers, both in Denver. He opened Gatos Designs Fine Jewelers in 1997. After leaving the jewelry business in 2007, he continued with his career in sales working for Pollard Motor Company, Fisher Kia, and finally McCaddon Cadillac, Buick, and GMC until illness forced early retirement in 2019. Jeff was an avid blues fan with an extensive collection of CDs as well as an avid, but not very good, golfer. Some of his best memories were playing golf at Haystack Mountain Golf Course with his best friend of 30 years, Garrett McCarthy (and sometimes Jeff's wife, who beat him once!).
Jeff is survived by his wife, Kyle Ann Rush Katz of Boulder, his brother Andrew Katz of Ocala, Florida, numerous cousins, and his beloved French bulldog Annabelle.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rocky Mountain French Bulldog Rescue (RMFBR.ORG) or the Alzheimer’s Association.
A memorial service for Jeff will be held Friday, April 4, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, Colorado 80501.
