Vern was born on December 26, 1943 in Las Animas, Colorado. He started school in Wild Horse, CO and attended schools in Denver, Mead and Longmont, as a teenager he worked on a farm, and then joined the Navy after graduation from Longmont High School. He was stationed at a Lemoore Naval Air Base in Lemoore, CA. in 1964.
After the service, he lived in Santa Monica, CA, then moved to Phoenix AZ, and settled in Longmont, CO.
He worked as a carpenter, since being outside was what he loved most. Vern worked for, and then became the head Superintendent for Cornerstone Homes for 18 years. He retired from Cornerstone in 2008.
Vern met Dianne Haas on Feb. 6th, 1994 and they were married 5 years later on the same date they met, Feb. 6th, 1999.
The wonderful years they spent together were filled with love, fun, and adventure.
Vern loved to hunt and fish. He had numerous friends that he went with, and there was always someone ready to go fishing with just a call from him. Vern taught his many Grandkids and Great Grandkids to hunt and fish. He had more patience than Job. It was his passion spending time with them, and teaching them everything he knew.
Vern was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne. Three daughters, Tracey Gillum and her husband Shannon, of Hanford, CA, Sheri Delahaye and her husband David, of Tyrone, GA and Gina Jones, of Tyrone, GA.
Thirteen Grandchildren and ten Great Grandchildren. His brother Alvin (Kay) Jones, Sister-in-law Diane (Chris) Willits, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Jess C. Jones, and Eileen Getman Jones, and his brother Charles Jones.
A private family visitation and burial will take place. Celebration of Life service will be held at Calvary Church at 11:00AM on Saturday January 22, 2022. 2101 Gay St. Longmont, CO.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pheasants Forever, or Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. In care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
