Joan (Reba) Blackmer beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on September 9th, 2026. She was born on July 12th, 1929, in Smith Center, Kansas to Jonathan and Rossi Moore. Joan was raised on a farm with eight brothers and sisters in the Smith Center area until age 12 when her family relocated to Baseline Road in Boulder. During and after high school, she worked at Western Cutlery. She graduated from Boulder High School in 1947 and 2 years later married the love of her life, George E. Blackmer, in Louisville, Colorado (1949).
Joan was a devoted homemaker, raising three children, Susan born in September 1951, Ross in January 1954, and Kent in May 1956. She had a lifelong passion for sewing, constructing and altering clothing and quilting. She often made great outfits for her children and grandchildren. As an adult Joan learned to swim and play tennis and participated for many years in senior exercise classes. Joan loved to cook and for a period worked as a cook for Sacred Heart Catholic School in Boulder.
Following their move from Boulder to Longmont in the late 1980’s Joan and George became members of Westview Presbyterian Church. She was active volunteer in the Longmont senior community and served on the HOA board for Hover Acres for several years. Joan continued to pursue her passion and love of sewing with the Longmont Senior Center group of hand quilters for over 25 years. Joan lost her husband, George, in 2007.
