
Joan Marie Lowry WillsonMay 3, 1940 ? July 24, 2006Joan Marie Lowry Willson, of Longmont, died Monday, July 24, 2006 at the Life Care Center of Longmont after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 66 years old.Mrs. Willson was born May 3, 1940 in Paw Paw, West Virginia to Hersey and Evelyn (Smith) Largent. Joan grew up and graduated from high school in Baltimore, MD. She married Charles Lowry in Baltimore, which ended in Divorce in 1972 after she relocated her family to Boulder from Duluth, MN. In 1981 Joan married Kenneth Willson, Jr. in Boulder. They moved to Longmont in 1986.Joan was a homemaker who enjoyed all aspects of taking care of the needs of her large family. When the children were grown she began her career, first as a secretary and soon advanced to office manager, corporate secretary and finally opened her home based business as a bookkeeper. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working in her small rose garden. She was a member of Faith Community Lutheran Church in Longmont.Through the 1970' s, one weekend a month, Joan was a facilitator for the PM (Previously Married's) Group at Mount St. Francis under Father Francis Bakewell in Colorado Springs. She maintains great friendships with some of the people she met there and considers those years of helping others some of the most memorable of her life.Joan was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Ron and Ken Largent; and a sister, Margaret ?Peggy? Horvath.She is survived by her husband, Ken Willson of Longmont; two daughters, Dawn Elliott and her husband Brad of Santa Barbara, CA and Kelly Corbett of Ventura, CA; five sons, Chuck Lowry and his wife Ampara of Costa Mesa, CA, Jeff Lowry of Walls, MS, Patrick Lowry of Creston, IA, Mike Lowry and his wife Jane of Ft. Worth, TX, and Shawn Lowry and his wife, Kim of Earlville, IL; a step-daughter, Cindy Pierce and her husband Doug of Mead, CO; two step sons, David Willson and his wife Diane and Mark Willson, both of Longmont, CO; eighteen grandchildren? three great grandchildren; a brother, Max Largent of Fairbanks, AK; sister, Shirley Netzer and her husband Bill of Pasadena, MD; and was Blessed with countless, compassionate and caring friends.There will be a memorial service 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith Community Lutheran Church in Longmont, Pastor Dan Hansen officiating. Memorials suggested to Faith Community Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary in Longmont.
