Joan Arlyne Munn

Joan Arlyne Munn, aged 82, passed away on Monday, May 12th, 2025. She was born on 11/03/1942 to Irving and Evelyn Sommer in New York as the second child of two. The family moved to Miami, Florida where the two girls grew up. Joan graduated from Miami High School in the class of 1960. She was married to William Munn in 1972 in Boulder, Colorado where they raised six children: Jo Dee, Robin, Debra, David, Rick, and Jill. Joan worked in admissions at Boulder Community Hospital for more than 25 years before her retirement.

Joan had an unyielding sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and a gift for compassion that she shared with all who knew her. She loved to travel and accessorize, favoring colors as bright as her personality. She participated in a bowling league for many years and was an avid animal lover caring for numerous cats and dogs during her life, most recently Bonnie and Beau. Joan loved spending time on the water, enjoying boating and fishing, and vacationing in Mexico. While her mobility decreased following a car accident in 2004, she kept her mind sharp with word games and game shows, and she never lost her quick wit or her ability to care for those around her. More than anything, Joan enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She was a proud member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization and the Boulder Jaycees.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Barbara, and her daughter Debra. She is survived by her husband, William, her three daughters and two sons, her twelve grandchildren, and her five great grandchildren.

There will be a service for family and close friends on Thursday 5/22/25 at Howe Mortuary in Longmont, Colorado with a reception immediately following. The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Joan later in the year, with details to follow for those interested.
