I recently saw in the Denver Post a story of Bob Gold's passing after an accident. My good local Ambassador for Pickleball, PickleballKen from the Arvada area and I just talked about Bob and Ken said he needed to called Bob to see how he was doing. 
It was such a pleasure to play against Bob in Greeley in the Colorado Senior Games. There were so few players in his age group so they played against us kids, early 70's. We had already won the Gold metal for our age group and there was one game left to play. It didn't mean anything because Bob already had the Gold for his age group. He agreed to play us for the fun of it and in one game, I learned so much from Bob and how a person can use your head instead of you feet and arms to beat the other team. It was my honor to be able to play such a class act. The Pickleball World has lost one of their greatest Ambassadors ever. Bob, enjoy life in your second world as you did in our first world. Last week on a pickleball court, I just heard the sad news of the passing of the legendary Joe Gold.  About 6 years ago when I was 59, whenever I played in Greeley I struggled to not get pickled (skunked) by a guy at least 10 years older than me (I figured).  His fitness level, mobility and skill was amazing.  I knew he worked at it to be in that shape!  Who is this guy, I thought? Imagine my surprise and awe when Joe told me he was 88 years young!!  Holy cow.  Then he told me his name was Joe Gold, and I thought - what an awesome name.   When I had a serious motorcycle accident he sent me a card in the rehab center and I really appreciated that.  I regret never getting to see him for the last 5 years.  What a great guy.   My sincere condolences to your entire family, Joe!

My father and mother were lifelong friends of Joe and Joan Gold.  My father worked for years with Joe at Hogsett Lumber and then Wicks. I was lucky to know the Golds and their children through this relationship and attending school with their children in Boulder. 

It saddens me greatly to hear that such a great man like Joe Gold was so thoughtlessly and tragically taken from his family and friends. I know that Joe was a great person and we were all blessed to have known him. My parents, who are now deceased, would of been especially upset to hear their good friend died so unnecessarily.  Our sympathies go out to the family. 

I met Joe as part of a group of guys playing golf on Tuesdays and Thursdays here in Longmont.  He was always a positive guy with a wit that kept us all laughing.  On behalf of the golf group that I now coordinate, we will all miss Joe every time we tee it up and our prayers and condolences go out to his family.

I first met Joe Gold on the pickle ball court over a decade ago and we continue playing several days a week in Greeley together. I’ll miss our weekly chats he was an amazing man to know.

I have known Joe and Joan Gold for many, many years. My parents are neighbors and we all will miss Joe terribly as we have been missing Joan.  I would look for Joe every time I was headed to my parents house making sure to stop and get my hug from Joe.  I will miss domino games and wonderful conversations. The neighborhood won’t be the same. 
Gold family, I loved Joe and Joan as my own family. I find comfort knowing they are together again. I pray for peace and comfort in your time of mourning.

Prior to relocating to Mesa Arizona I had the pleasure and good luck to know and play pickle ball with Joe in Greeley for many years.  We literally played as friends and competitors for many years. Joe hated to lose, but when he did , he did it with grace and flourish. I know the group from Longmont and Greeley will truly miss our pickle ball friend Ken Nickerson

Joe was my 1st cousin 1x removed. Everyday and I mean every time I saw him he was happy and smiling. You could not meet and talk with Joe and go away sad, he brightened your day.

When I lost my father in 1960 at the age of 10; I found one very rare person in Joseph Gold. I spent many hours as I grew over the years with this great man. He was always working in his yard in Boulder. He never seemed to mind giving me his time even though he had children of his own to raise. In retrospect he was one of the most important men in my life. Over the years I would run into Joe and he was always the way I remember him as a child. 
I will will miss this great man that was so important to me in my childhood.
Joe you will be greatly missed by all whose path you crossed.

I think I speak for the whole pickleball community when I say how sad I am to hear of Joe's death! I played PB with him at Faith Point church in the winter, and he was always such a positive, smiling, supportive, welcoming, loving man. He made you feel like you were his long-time friend. His physical ability and agility for a man in his 90s was amazing! And he was such a good player. He coached me on some of my techniques when I asked for help. It's really hard to say gracefully what is in my heart. He is an inspiration and a bright shining light in the world, even in his departure from this earth.

Joe was such a good pickle ball player , Joe and I got several medals playing mixed-doubles in the Greeley Senior Games. He was such a great friend and we enjoyed his humorous e-mails.  Lloyd and I will miss him dearly.




Joe will be greatly missed by all persons who have had the pleasure to have had Joe be apart of our lives.  As a fellow "lumber guy" Joe and I shared many stories together.  Also I have had the pleasure to have shared many laughs together on the Pickleball court.  I will look forward to joining you in heaven one day Joe.  Thank you for blessing my life.  bob bowman

I am so saddened by the tragic passing of Joe.  Joe was a wonderful member of the Men of Faith group at St. John's.  That is where I met him.  I loved hearing of his pickle ball stories, his smile, his jovial attitude, and seeing him at Mass.  I looked up to Joe, and he will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Joe's tragic death. Please accept my heartfelt condolences at your loss.
I first met Joe at the Longmont YMCA many years ago.  His wit, kindness, and competitive spirit made quite an impression on me!  He was the first person who I ever heard talk about Pickleball, which at the time I thought was an odd name for a sport. Now, years later, I've started playing and think of Joe whenever I "dink".
