

John Mark Chavez of Firestone, Colorado died October 14, 2009 in a motorcycle accident in Boulder County. He was 53.John was born on September 23, 1956 in San Francisco, California to Lincoln Chavez and Annie Smrdel. He moved to Lafayette area as an infant. He attended and graduated from Centauras High School 1974, where he was the quarterback on the football team, played on the baseball team and was a noted art student.On March 3, 1991 he married Rosalie Trujillo in Boulder, Colorado. John worked at Rocky Flats for 19 years, as a supervisor in the filter area. He more recently worked at the University of Colorado as a construction project manager on the Boulder Campus. This was a job and location he dearly loved.A man of many interests, John was an accomplished chef. He took great joy cooking for large gatherings of family and friends, seeing to it they were all carefully provided for and got plenty to eat. His love and appreciation of the mountains provided for many family camping trips complete with ATV's. He introduced his daughters to the great outdoors. His Harley and time on the open road were a time of fulfillment. From this love he learned to build motorcycles and work on them with precision and detail. His continued appreciation for art, helped introduce his youngest daughter to many styles of painting and pottery. He also enjoyed private time working with his wife on stain glass works. A perfectionist he worked on all his projects, work and play until they were complete and exact.Preceding him in death is his father.Surviving are his wife Rosalie of Firestone; three daughters Jennifer (Kenny) Berglund of Firestone; Cheryl (Patrick) Dunn of Brighton; and Jessica Chavez of Firestone; his mother Annie Chavez of Longmont; and three grandchildren Daniel, Aaron, and Lily.A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 19 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church.A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at St. Theresa's with Father Herman Flores officiating.Interment will follow at the Foothills Gardens of Memory.
