

John Hobbs Coffin was born June 20, 1932 in Evanston, Illinois to Frank S. and Elizabeth (Hobbs) Coffin. He grew up in Illinois and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and served in the Great Lakes region. John was on a ship headed for Korea when the armistice was signed. John moved to Colorado from Chicago in 1972. He married Roberta Vannah on February 18, 1972 at the Valmont Church.
John was in public service for over 50 years. He worked for the streets department and then was a park ranger at the Longmont reservoirs. At the reservoirs he made sure they were protected to provide clean, safe water for area communities. After he retired he continued his involvement with the City by volunteering with the Longmont Police department. He volunteered for 22 1/2 years because it motivated him to make a difference in his life. He became a liaison between the police department and the district attorney’s office delivering court documents and related files to different offices. John received the Volunteer of the Year award and other awards for his community service. John was a member of the Longmont Kiwanis Club and American Legion Post 32.
His parents preceded John in death. He is survived by his wife Roberta of Longmont, his sister Sarah Neuscheler and her husband Roger of Parker and a nephew, Charles.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 at Howe Mortuary on Saturday, April 16. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services.
