
John Lewerke Jr. was born on August 20, 1941, in Forest City, Iowa, to Minnie Lek and John Lewerke Sr. A few months after the birth of John Jr. and his twin brother, Herman (“Turk”), Minnie passed away. John Sr. later married Tillie Draayer, and they remained married until John Sr’s death.
John Jr. graduated from Hollandale High School in Minnesota in 1959 and joined the United States Navy, where he served as a photographer. Following his military service, he worked as a professional photographer for many years. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, and snowmobiling. He was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Paralyzed Veterans of America (MNPVA) and lived a life marked by faith and devotion to his family.
John Jr. was preceded in death by his sister, Ann and his Brother, Pete and is survived by his brother Herman (Turk) Lewerke. John Jr. married Sylvia D. Brazitis on June 14, 1975. Together, they shared nearly 51 wonderful years together.
He leaves to cherish his memory his Beloved Wife, Sylvia D. Lewerke, Son, Sean Lewerke, Stepchildren, Daniel Brazitis, John Brazitis, Karen Clark, and Michael Brazitis and Twin Brother, Herman “Turk” Lewerke.
Along with their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, military brothers and sisters, and dear friends who will cherish his memory. John’s legacy of faith, integrity, duty, and honor will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A graveside service will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN, on August 19, 2026, at 1:30 PM.
Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
