Born May 24, 1930 in Longmont, CO, he was the son of John and Virginia (Summy) Lind. He attended school in Mead, CO prior to transferring to Longmont High School. John was a gifted athlete who lettered in four sports in high school leading to his addition in the Longmont High sports hall of fame.
After high school, John attended Colorado State University for one year where he played basketball and baseball.
On July 3, 1951, John married his high school sweetheart Betty “BJ” (Bland). He soon enlisted in the Air Force, where he continued his basketball and baseball career. John and BJ had two daughters, Debbie and Becky.
After the service, John began working at Dow Chemical where he eventually retired in 1989. John loved to golf and spent much time on the golf course. He and BJ also enjoyed traveling in their spare time.
John’s pride and joy were his grandkids, and he was a great golf teacher to both his grandkids and nephews. He always attended their sporting events and made trips to St. Thomas to visit his granddaughter.
Over the last two decades, John enjoyed life with his longtime companion Jean Evans. They loved to travel, golf, and spend time with their respective families.
John was preceded in death by his parents John and Virginia, his wife BJ, and son-in-law Tom O’Brien. He is survived by his daughters, Debbie O’Brien of Florida, Becky (Bob) Lind of Florida, and his brother Jim (Joan) Lind of Longmont, CO. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Jenny (Kevin) Haddox of St Thomas, Shawn (Kristen) O’Brien of Billings, MT, and Molly (Jared) Kopczynski of Denver, CO, four great grandchildren, Luke, Mira, Brady, and Ara, and his longtime companion, Jean Evans of Longmont, CO.
A memorial service will be held at Howe Mortuary in Longmont, CO on Friday, August 6, 2021, at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes you to donate to Roberta’s Legacy, care of Howe Mortuary.
