
Josephine Louise Reed passed away October 8, 2013 at her home in Longmont, CO. She was 99 years old.She was born February 18, 1914 in Kremmling, CO to Roy Franklin and Magdeline (Graff) Polhamus. She attended a one room school house near Troublesome Post Office called Primrose School; and graduated from Kremmling Union High School in 1932. She then attended Colorado A&M where she received her BA in 1937 and her MS in 1962 from Colorado State University.On December 8, 1940 she married Jesse James Reed. They moved from CO to CA for a warmer climate in 1963. She returned to Longmont, CO from California in 1993.Josephine taught at Pearmont School, a one room school, and kindergarten and first grade at Kremmling and Climax, CO and middle and high school in Livermore and Bakersfield, CA. After receiving her Master's degree, she was a special education teacher for primary grades to high school for 30 years.Josephine was a member of the AFT “ American Federation of Teachers, the Colonial Daughters, Territorial Daughters of Colorado, and Clan Gregor. Josephine was proud to be a 3rd generation Coloradoan and enjoyed keeping track of the family's genealogy.Josephine was preceded in death by her husband Jesse James Reed; her parents; and 4 brothers Richard, Robert, Edward, and LeRoy.She is survived by her son Robert James Reed (Barbara) of Aurora; her daughters Farita Anne Polhamus of Lakewood and Shirley Catherine Kay Evatz of Longmont; her sister Catherine Anne Pickering of Ft. Collins; 7 grandchildren Bain, Stacy, and Cerrie Knobel, Shelby Matthews, Robin Reed, and Troy and Nicole Evatz; 11 great-grandchildren Samantha Kiminski, Skylar Knobel, Kyle and Nicholas Knobel, Allyson Detloff, Brandon/Raven, Krysta and Dakota Knobel, Katie Slate, Charlie and Stella Mae Matthews, and Maggie Tyrer.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday October 30, 2013 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
