Joyce Louise Mathews

Joyce L. Mathews, 73, died peacefully in Loveland, CO on August 26, 2009 with her family present. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, H.E. ""Mat"" Mathews, in December 1995.Joyce was born on August 31, 1935 in Stoneham, Colorado, the daughter of Joseph and Zulma Kindt who immigrated from Belgium in 1926. Her earliest years were spent on her family farm in Stoneham. On October 23, 1955, Joyce married ""Mat"" Mathews in Sterling, CO. They began their family of four children in Vernal, Utah, in 1957. The couple moved back to Colorado in 1963 and made their home in Longmont. After Mat's passing, Joyce later moved to Loveland in 2005.Joyce was very involved as a homemaker raising her 3 sons and daughter. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends in the Jaycee's women's sorority. Joyce's passion for life was expressed in her love for dancing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.She is survived by three sons, Rick Mathews and his wife Angie of Augusta, Georgia, Lindy Matthews and his wife Fran of Longmont, Jeff Mathews and his wife Debbie of Loveland; and one daughter, Nicole VanGelder and her husband Brad, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Brandy, Josh, Justin, Cody, Evelyn, Jared, Jordan, Shannon, Alec and Brayden; and two great grandchildren Dalton and Brooklyn.Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mat, and two brothers Denny Kindt and Roger Kindt.Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Howe Mortuary, Longmont, CO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009 at Howe Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery with a reception to follow in the Howe Mortuary Event Room. Donations may be made, in Joyce's memory, to the charity of donor's choice.
