Judith Lundon Olsen (Lundquist)

Judi was born in Spencer, Iowa on October 14, 1946 to Al and Joyce Lundquist. She lived there until she was fourteen, at which time the family moved to Alma, Michigan. She graduated from Alma High School in 1965 with honors. Judi was a champion swimmer, lifeguard, cheerleader and honors student.

In 1968, she moved to Boulder, Colorado. One of her first jobs was Detective Secretary at the Boulder Police Department. In 1971, she joined the Northern Metro Enforcement Group (MEG), which was a drug task force operation for Northern Colorado. In this position, she participated in drug buys, prostitution stings and other interesting undercover work.

After leaving MEG in 1973, she joined the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, becoming Chief Investigator in 1974. She was the first woman in the State of Colorado to hold that position. While she was at the DA’s office, her investigations were instrumental in bringing many serious criminals to justice, particularly in the area of sex assault. She was featured in the Denver Post’s 1976 “Gallery of Fame” for helping to bring to trial, and obtain a conviction of, four biker gang members who robbed and raped a CU coed. She passionately educated people about rape and child abduction and molestation. She taught self-defense classes to women and informational classes to investigators and law enforcement on how to investigate these types of crimes throughout the State of Colorado and nationally. Upon her retirement from the DA’s office, the Daily Camera wrote an editorial praising her accomplishments entitled “Judi Leach: Sexual Assault Expert”. During this time, she was married to former Sheriff Brad Leach. They divorced but remained friendly until her death.

After leaving the DA’s office, she became a private investigator, which she did for many years. She also re-married and had a son, whom she devoted most of her time to- attending his baseball and football games as his biggest (and most vocal) supporter.

Judi was funny, intelligent, interesting, honest and feisty. She loved her two children unconditionally and was passionate about many things including baseball, football, bird watching, politics, and her dogs. She was always vocal about anything she deemed unjust. Most who met her loved her “spicy” personality. She was truly one of a kind.

Judi is survived by her husband Patrick Olsen, her two children- Jodi Biekert (Brent) of Longmont and Tyler Olsen of Erie, her granddaughter Maya Biekert of Longmont, her two sisters- Barbara Jennings of Vashon, Washington and Kathryn Andree of Bakersville, North Carolina, and her beloved Goldens- Cash and Zoe. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
