Julie was born on March 22, 1938 to parents Jose and Severa Cervantes, at her home in Brush, CO. After graduating from Boulder High School in 1956, she went to California visiting family. There she met the man she would marry; Manuel C. Avalos and both tied the knot, August 6th 1957, in Sanger, CA.
Manuel and Julie moved back to boulder and eventually settled into Lafayette in 1970. Here in Lafayette, Julie started her career within the Boulder Valley School District as a Bilingual Educator.
Working with children was always a passion, along with her relationship to the Mormon church. She brought these both together, as a nursery teacher on Sundays. After retiring, Julie could be found on her enclosed porch exercising, reading, crocheting, or using her myriad of colored pencils, filling in her favorites, animals and flowers.
Julie is one of 11 siblings (5 Brothers and 5 Sisters). She is predeceased by her Son M. Thomas Avalos and Husband Manuel C. Avalos. She is survived by her Daughter Franki L. Avalos (Lafayette, Co). Grand-Children Juli Avalos and husband Jon (Wilmington, MA), Daniel Avalos, Thomas Avalos and Taylor Avalos of Lafayette. Great-Grandchildren Kendall and Parker Garon, children to Juli & Jon.
Relatives and Friends are invited to a Memorial Service to be held at the Latter Day Saints Church at 701 W. South Boulder Rd, Louisville CO 80027 on Friday, Jan 12th at 6PM. A celebration of life will be held later in the summer for family, date to be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for a donation to be made in Julie’s memory to the Boulder Humane Society. Donations can be made by clicking the link below, with the recipient email of: [email protected].
