April 2nd 1938-May 24th 2023
June enjoyed reading, golf, low-stakes gaming and socializing with many diverse friends and neighbors.
June Sullivan was born in Dayton, Ohio and grew up on the family livestock farm in Centerville, Ohio with her parents, younger sister, two aunts, uncles, and grandparents. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1956 and then attended both Wittenberg University and the University of Dayton, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Education and Spanish. June lived abroad in Taxco, Mexico as part of her studies in the late 1950’s.
After graduation in 1960, June married Ted Edward Sullivan, also of Centerville. That same year she began teaching at Centerville High School where she taught both Spanish and Home Economics. Two years later June and Ted had their first child Edward Andrew.
In 1968, seeking a change from the midwest and urban tensions gripping Dayton, Detroit and other cities at the time, she moved with her young family to Evergreen, Colorado. While exploring this breathtaking land and expanding her family with a second child, Lisa Ann, she continued her academic career receiving a Master’s degree in Educational Media from the University of Colorado.
June and her family relocated to Niwot, Colorado in 1975, and shortly thereafter she began her Doctoral Studies at the University of Northern Colorado where she received a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction in 1980. She later accepted a position as Librarian and Media Specialist at Fort Lupton Middle School, where she worked for over a decade.
After leaving her education career, June and her sister Jean undertook a year's long process to create a master development involving the family farm in Centerville, which included a master plan for commercial, retail and residential uses, which completed in the early 2000’s. Simultaneous to this pursuit, June relocated to Longmont with her husband Ted from Boulder Heights, began a late in life pursuit of golf, which culminated in her serving two non-consecutive terms as President of the Twin Peaks Women’s Golf League.
Shortly after Ted’s passing in late 2005, June began a deeply rewarding career as a Volunteer Peer Counselor through the Longmont Senior Center and Boulder County Mental Health. June assisted in facilitating group counseling for grief sufferers and caregivers, as well as provided one on one counseling to seniors struggling with a multitude of time-of-life issues.
June was preceded in death by parents, Russell and Lucille Miller, spouse Ted, sister Jean Jacoby. June is survived by son Edward Andrew Sullivan, his wife Anna Trujillo-Sullivan, daughter Lysa Sullivan, her spouse Kirk Carson, granddaughter Kassandra Trujillo-Adams, her husband Brady Adams, grandson Lucas Andrew Sullivan, his fiancé Dara Osher, and great grandson Alex Michael Ignacio Adams.
The family wants to recognize the numerous life-long friends, neighbors, and counseling associates many of whom have been extremely supportive as June’s needs changed later in life.
At the decedent’s wishes, no memorial will be held. In-lieu of flowers please consider a donation in the name of June A. Sullivan to the Wounded Warrior Project, a special charity and cause for the decedent. http://support.woundedwarriorsproject.org
