
Karen Lynette James was born June 25, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to Valma Jean (Newman) Kovacs and Gabor Kovacs.Karen graduated from Taylor Center High in 1965. Karen graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science in nursing with additional studies toward a Masters in nursing. Karen had wanted to be a nurse since the age of four. Karen's nursing career began in Michigan.In the early seventies, she and her sister, Diane, moved to Dacono, Colorado where she worked at Denver Children's Hospital. In 1977, Karen began her career at Longmont United Hospital where she worked for 32 years, primarily in pediatrics. Karen loved bedside nursing and mentoring nurses just beginning their careers.In 1976 Karen married Robert James. In the early 1980's, they moved to Longmont where she has lived ever since.Karen played the clarinet and bassoon and had a great love for crafts, including knitting, sewing and embroidery. Karen also loved nature and the beauty of the Rocky Mountains where she frequently hiked.Loved by family, friends and co-workers for her sweetness and the kind generosity of her spirit, she will long be remembered and missed by all.Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert James.Survived by her children Robert James II of Longmont, Megan James of Longmont and Seaman Eric James of San Diego. Further survivors include her siblings; George Kovacs of Michigan, Diane Kiefer of Alabama, Gary Kovacs of Washington, Glenn Kovacs of Florida and Ronald Kovacs of Arizona.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009 at New Creation Church, 737 Bross St., Longmont, proceeded by a one-hour viewing. Karen will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
