
Kathy (Johnson) Jurgens of Longmont, Colorado, died February 14, 2011 at the HospiceCare Center in Louisville. She was 57 years old.She was born Kathy Jean Johnson on July 7, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska to Everett Henry and Dorothy Anne (Reed) Johnson. Kathy was the youngest of five children. She was very close to her mother, Dorothy, who supported the family when Kathy was a child.She graduated from Bellevue High School in Bellevue, Nebraska. Kathy then graduated from the University of Nebraska, Omaha with her Bachelors degree. She went on to earn a Masters degree in School Psychology from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, and later graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with her Ph.D. in Psychology.Kathy married Roger Jurgens on May 29, 1982, in Bellevue, Nebraska. They moved to Longmont that year from Bellevue.Kathy made a career out of her passion and gift for helping other people as a clinical psychologist. She was a school psychologist and then had a private practice for many years. For the past three years, Kathy was a psychology consult in the Emergency Room at Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Colorado. Kathy was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Stephen Ministry, was active with Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley, the OUR Center, WWRC, and numerous other church and civic groups. She enjoyed biking, hiking, skiing, golfing, traveling, reading, movies and spending time with her family and friends.She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Johnson; her mother, Dorothy Neaman; her step-father, Leonard Neaman and her brother, Jay Johnson.Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Roger Jurgens of Longmont; her son, Brett Jurgens and his wife Amanda Jurgens of Denver; two step-daughters, Jackie Phillips of Neola, Iowa, and Jennifer Jurgens of Bethesda, Maryland; two brothers, Erik Johnson of Lake Ridge, Virginia and David Johnson of Denver and a sister, Sue Hutto of Bellevue, Nebraska.Visitation will take place from 3:00-5:00 PM on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 21, 2011, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1000 15th Ave. in Longmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kathy's name to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, HospiceCare of Boulder & Broomfield Counties, the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
