Keith was born on September 13, 1988, in Longmont, Colorado. He grew up in Longmont, attending the public schools, Quest Academy, and graduating from Longmont High School. School wasn't easy for him, but he persevered, going on to earn three associate degrees: in Automotive Repair from Northwest Kansas Technical College, in Criminal Justice from the University of Denver, and in Electrical Wiring from IBMC in Longmont.
Keith had a gifted mechanical mind and a natural ability to work with his hands. He loved to solve problems and figure out how things worked. He often used out-of-the-box thinking to solve perplexing problems and find creative solutions. He was honored with the prestigious Edelbrock Award during his time at NWKTC. As a licensed electrical wireman, he worked for several local companies and was highly respected for his skill, can-do attitude and work ethic by employers, co-workers, and the customers he served.
Keith was born with the gift of gab. He could talk to anyone, would listen deeply, explain complex ideas in an understandable and relatable way, and debate passionately on issues he cared about. His wit was quick, his humor often dry, and his signature crooked grin and raised eyebrow were unforgettable.
Keith cared deeply about many things; God, family and friends, country, and animals—especially those in need. His gentle hands and quiet voice calmed frightened cats and dogs. They knew they were safe with Keith. Over the past 11 years, he made numerous lengthy trips to Carson City, Nevada to lend his skills to Catmandu, the cage-free cat sanctuary and rescue founded by his mother. His contributions played a major role in transforming it into the safe and comfortable haven it is today.
He was an inventive and determined person—constantly thinking, building, creating, and learning. Whether it was fishing, shooting pool, baseball, target shooting, golfing, bowling with his wicked curve ball, or perfecting a new skill, Keith enjoyed the experience of life. Some of his inventions were fabulous; a few were spectacular failures—but he loved the process and learned from them all.
Keith is survived by his father, Robert (Bob) Carroll and fiancé Betty Lucas of Longmont; his mother, Linda Carroll Buchanan of Carson City, Nevada; his brother, G. Mike Carroll and fiancé Andrea Saunders of Littleton; and long-time girlfriend Patti Sorenson. He also leaves behind many friends, extended family, and the animals whose lives he touched. He will live on in our hearts and minds….until we meet again.
A funeral service will be held on June 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Longmont. Interment of ashes will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place at noon at The Red Zone, 540 Main Street, in Longmont, where friends and family are invited to gather to remember Keith, laugh, cry, and celebrate the unique and unforgettable person he was.
