Keith 'pete' Smith

Keith Allen ""Pete"" Smith, of Longmont, Colorado, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 63 years old. Pete was born April 22, 1944 in West Union, Iowa to Carroll and Janet (Purdy) Smith. He entered the US Navy in 1962 and served aboard the USS Ticonderoga aircraft carrier during the Vietnam War.Following his honorable discharge, Pete moved to Montana to experience the beauty of the West. He later moved to Colorado in 1992. He spent more than 20 years in sporting goods sales and most recently was working as a representative for MT Sports of Billings, Montana.Mr. Smith was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a life member of the National Rifle Association He was also a champion trap shooter and had served as the club professional with the Butte Trap and Skeet Club in Butte, Montana.Pete is survived by his wife, Marja-Liisa K. (Muinonen) Smith, whom he married on August 15, 2001 in Pensacola, Florida. He is further survived by his mother, Janet Smith of Hopkins, Minnesota; daughter, Malia Miller and her husband, David, of Wasilla, Alaska; step-son, John-Erik Bykonich of Longmont; step-daughter, Jaana-Maria Bykonich of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a brother, Mikeal Smith and his wife, Ann, of Hopkins; a sister, Patricia Woods of Columbia, South Carolina; a nephew, Rowan Smith of Hopkins; a niece, Amber Woods of Columbia; sister-in-law, Anna-Kaarina Zent of Pensacola; and his former spouse, Connie Richards of Sheridan, Montana.He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Ty Smith; and a nephew, Jared Woods. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary, Longmont.
