

Kelly Boyd Winkler passed away August 7, 2014 at Tru Community Care Hospice in Louisville, CO of cancer. He was born July 8, 1960 in Portland, OR to Dena Joanne Winkler. He later moved to California where his mother married Roger Luckow, the man that became the only father he knew and loved. They moved to Longmont, CO where he grew up and began his life. He joined the US Navy in 1977 and was active duty until 1981. He was an HT3 aboard the USS Francis Hammond (FF-1067) from January 1979 through June 1980. During this period, he contributed significantly to the following awards: Battle Efficiency “E”, Damage Control “DC”, Communications “C”, Gunnery “E”, Missile “E”, Operations “E”, Supply “E”, and Anti/Submarine Warfare “A”. He was stationed in Japan and visited over 26 countries during active duty and was proud to serve his country.
Kelly was a master carpenter in the construction field and worked for various companies over the years. He was a perfectionist at best and enjoyed building with his hands. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and attending charity bike runs and he had an amazing sense of humor. He cherished spending time with his beloved family and pets and was a devoted Denver Bronco fan who never wavered. During his illness, his cat Lucy and dogs, Milo, Charlie, Cody and grand dog Boo, brought him so much comfort, joy, friendship but most of all Love. Kelly was a very kind, caring and devoted father and husband who will be sadly missed.
He married Mae Sandoval on March 28, 1988 and they began their life together in Longmont, CO. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Lacie Winkler (Sam Schultz) of Longmont, CO and Mia Winkler and son-in-law Nickolas Higgins of Longmont, CO; one sister, Lisa Brooks of Longmont, CO; niece, Jessica Brooks and nephew, Dylan Brooks; three aunts, Rose Blakley of Bullhead City, AZ, Nancy McArthur of Bullhead City, AZ, Wanda Hanford of Yakima, WA and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dena Joanne Luckow, father, Roger John Luckow and grandmother, Dorothy Frazier.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday August 15, 2014 at 1pm at Howe Mortuary Chapel located at 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO. A lunch reception will follow at New Creation Church Fellowship Hall at 737 Bross St., Longmont, CO. The family would love for those that knew and loved Kelly to attend.
