Kenneth Ernest Williams, beloved son, brother, husband, father, and Pop-Pop, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026, in Broomfield, Colorado, following a courageous battle with dementia. He was born on July 20, 1938, in Watertown, New York, to the late Kenneth G. Williams and Margaret (Nottell) Williams.
Kenneth grew up in Watertown, where he attended local schools and graduated from Watertown High School. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, embarking on a distinguished 30-year career of service that took him around the world. His duty stations included: Bainbridge, Maryland (1956–1957); Londonderry, Northern Ireland (1957–1960); USS F.T. Berry (1962–1964); COMCORTON 16 (1964–1965); NAVRADSTA, Thurso, Scotland (1965–1966); USS Newport News and USS Springfield (1966–1968); NCS Norfolk, Virginia (1968–1970); RM "B" School, Bainbridge, Maryland (1971); NCS Thurso, Scotland (1971–1974); ADCO, TCC Virginia Beach, Virginia (1974–1976); USS Farragut (1976–1977); USS Forrestal (1977–1979); NAVCAMSLANT, Norfolk, Virginia (1979–1982); NCS Thurso, Scotland (1982–1985); and NCU Washington, D.C. (1985–1986).
Following his retirement from the Navy in 1986, Kenneth returned to his hometown of Watertown, New York. He found great joy in hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and gardening, but nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his family. His favorite indulgence was ice cream, and he loved sharing it with his grandchildren. He was known for saying, "There's always room for ice cream," and after dinner, he would often smile and add, "Ice cream fills in the cracks." These simple sayings became cherished family memories that will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Kenneth is survived by his loving children, cherished grandchildren, sisters, brother, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Diana Cooper Steven (Brown) Williams.
A military honors ceremony celebrating Kenneth's life will be held on what would have been his 88th birthday, Monday, July 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Howe Mortuary in Longmont, Colorado.
Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
