Kent Paulson

Born in Del Norte in 1956 to Walt and Vada Paulson, both well-known and beloved in their community, Kent first made a name for himself both academically and on the football field. After a stint in college, he spent his professional life in many fields, the oil fields in Wyoming, the potato industry in the San Luis Valley, and owning his own businesses. He was constantly active, always seeking to know more about everything he encountered. Kent was wickedly intelligent, always quick with a witty line or an amusing joke.

Anyone who knew Kent can attest that it was easy to become lost in his stories, as he never forgot a name or an experience that he shared with someone. Always good with numbers, Kent played a mean game of Texas Hold-Em, and he loved teaching his grandchildren how to strategize at the table.

He dedicated his life to supporting and caring for his family, marrying the love of his life, Susie, in 1997, 20+ years after their first date in high school. In retirement, they were always active, volunteering at the church, skiing, walking, and driving all over the country to visit beautiful places and see family.

Kent loved Susie unconditionally and wholly, and it was obvious every time you saw them together. Kent loved and was so proud of his children, Jared (Corey) Paulson, Lindsay Gurney, Wendi Matthews, and Amber (Adam) Ordal, and could often be heard telling stories of their accomplishments to others. He would be the first one to jump into the car if any of his family needed help. He is also survived by his sister Shawnee (Christoph) Weigt and her family, Amanda (Sean) McGary, Riley, and Finn, all of whom he loved and teased mightily, as only family can. Some of Kent’s favorite experiences were spending time with his 7 grandchildren: Ellie, Abigail, Delaney, Grant, Cecelia, Shelby, and Grayson, and they all benefited from having his wisdom and snark in their lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to the Abundant Life Church of Longmont, VFW Foundation, Pawsitivity Service Dogs for Veterans, or the Gary Sinise Foundation.

A Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Howe Mortuary & Crematory located at 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, CO 80501. Fellowship & Light Refreshments will follow the service at the same location.
