Larry was born in Greeley, CO in 1944 to Reuben Howard and Alma LaVonne (Lamar) Buckendorf. He graduated from Greeley High School in 1962.
After two previous marriages, Larry met his wife, Peggy Jean (Baker-Mayer) in 1981 and, with a blended family of 8 children, they spent 31 years together. Larry enjoyed genealogy, history, and fishing. Larry spent many years coaching and helping administer the youth and legion baseball programs in Longmont.
Larry spent most of his career at IBM, starting as a clerk and retiring in 1993 as a Project Manager. He worked as a contract Project Manager for several companies including a 2 year assignment with IBM in Thailand from 1995 to 1997. He and his wife, Peggy, enjoyed the people, culture and food in Thailand.
Family was his first priority. Spending time with his 5 children: Larry Scott, Mark, Rodney, Joanna McMurray, and Brent and his step children: Kristal Domenico, Robin Stough, and Corey Mayer was a joy to him. His favorite pastime, though, was being with his 14 beloved grandchildren: Whitney, Jacob, Derek, Dillon, Zak, Raef, Cassie, Makayla, Hannah, Colton, Gabe, Ben, Lila, and Kennedy.
Larry is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children and grandchildren; his sisters Dianna Marston and husband Michael of San Jose, CA and Ruby Spignesi of Sacramento, CA and brother-in-law Al Kesler (husband of sister Joyce Kesler, who died in a car accident on Friday, June 15, 2012).
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alfred Buckendorf, and sisters: Beulah Landdeck, Violet Langley, Juanita Jarrett, and Joyce Kesler.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 21 at Howe Mortuary. Larry will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 22 prior to a celebration of his life, which will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at LifeBridge Christian Church.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Care of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, Hospice Care Center, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville, CO.
