Larry Joe

Larry Box, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully January 27, 2016, in Longmont Colorado. He was born July 6, 1941 Lexington, Kentucky to the late Joe Rees Box and Rebecca Maurine Box.

Larry graduated from Lafayette High School. He met Dianna Nichols and they married in 1960 and went on to have three children, Cathy Jo, Lisa Lynn and Rodney Keith. He obtained an associate degree from the University of Kentucky. He and his family moved to Colorado with IBM, retiring after 33 years. During his time with IBM he was assigned to work in Taiwan for 2 1/2 years. This was a life changing assignment. He met many lifetime friends there and found many adventures that he shared with family and friends. After retiring from IBM he enrolled in CU and received a degree in Asian studies. He had a passion for learning, teaching and sharing. He had many interests including studying religions, traveling, reading and basically trying to learn everything about everything. He delighted in sharing the beauty of nature with family and friends.

He visited many countries in his travels. His most recent excursion was on a National Geographic Cruise into the arctic circle, he hoped to see the polar bears that his wife Dianna loves so much. They did in fact see them and a mama bear brought her baby by the ship so Dianna could get a close look. He was always happy to make others dreams come true.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Maurine Box, his brother, David Wayne Box and his daughter, Lisa Lynn Box.

He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and a trove of treasured memories for his wife, Dianna; daughter, Cathy; son, Rodney; grandsons, Paul Gonzales, Raymond Joseph Gonzales SR, Kyle Matthew Box, Dylan Joseph Box; great grandson, Raymond Joseph Gonzales JR, as well as innumerable friends. If you ever met Larry, you will never forget him.

There will be a celebration of Larry's life at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St. Longmont, CO on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:00 am.
