Born on August 22, 1946 in Bremerton, Washington, to Jack and Daina Orme, Larry spent much of his early life living in many different areas of the country. He has said to have attended almost two dozen schools before he was a junior in high school.
With his parents and younger sisters Barbara and Judy, he eventually settled in Boulder, Colorado where he graduated from Boulder High School in 1965. It is there that he met the love of his life, Linda Grotzky, whom he would share a marriage that lasted 56 years until his passing.
Larry would have two sons, Chris and Brent. Larry passed on his love of sports to his sons and spent countless hours playing catch, hitting baseballs, throwing and kicking footballs, and shooting hoops with them. He would volunteer to coach many seasons of baseball, football, basketball, and one hapless season when a league was short a coach he courageously stepped up to coach soccer...a sport he knew next to nothing about.
As a design draftsman, Larry worked for a variety of employers that included Lockheed-Martin, Honeywell, Rocky Flats, Whole Foods, and a small but seemingly fun company called Electronic Processors Inc. He was responsible for creating accurate technical drawings for manufacturing and construction projects. His career spanned from the time he used drafting tools to create blueprints until the later years when he utilized computer-aided drafting technology.
Later in life after raising his sons and retiring from work, he was able to spend more time on other interests, such as restoring a classic muscle car.. With Linda, they would spend many summer afternoons and evenings attending car shows and cruises in this car, which was also once the family car...a 1970 Chevelle SS 454. Larry, with Linda, also loved to travel and to spend time with family.
Larry is survived by his wife Linda, son Chris (Dana), sisters Barbara Bender, Judy Longo (John), grandsons Aaron Isaacs and Trevor Toft, daughter-in-law Brandy Orme, and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews, as well as numerous family members and friends.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Jack and Daina Orme, his son Brent Orme, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Anna Beth and Virgil Grotzky, and brother-in-law Bob Bender. in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation by using the link below.
