

Les was born October 31, 1915 in Prosper, Texas, the son of Garland Edward and Bessie Elizabeth (Kimbrough) Ford. He grew up ranching in west Texas prior to serving in the United States Army Air Corp. He moved to Colorado in 1954 from New Mexico. He ran the American Legion Post #32 for a number of years and had also managed the Elks Lodge #1055 in Longmont.
Les was skilled heavy equipment operator, working in road construction and difficult backcountry work. He was instrumental in laying the pipeline, bringing water from the western slope to the front range of Colorado. He also helped with water tunnels and the Moffitt Tunnel.
Les was preceded in death by his wife Velma, his brother Martin, his daughter in law Terry Ford and his son in law Roger Case.
Survivors include his sons Mart Ford of Longmont and Rod (Nancy) Ford of Denver; his daughter Becky Case of Ranier, OR and four grandchildren; Cameron (Jason) Stevens of Longmont, Monica (Steve) Williams of Portland, OR, Colbie Ford of Longmont, and Max Ford of Denver. Further survivors include his sister Ona Mae Tyer of Ralls, TX and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. today, September 15, 2010 at Howe Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Tom Formby of Foothills Baptist Church in Lyons officiating. Burial with military honors provided by both The United States Air Force and the American Legion Post #32, will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
