Lesley was raised in New Jersey having fond memories of the Jersey Shore. She was an alumna of the University of Arizona where she received a journalism degree in 1978 and met her future husband. On June 22, 1985 Lesley married Thomas Kinder in Plainfield, N.J. In their early years together Lesley worked in New York City as a journalist, copywriter and editor on Wall Street.
The Kinders moved to Colorado in 1988 where Lesley, an accomplished musician, played violin with the Boulder Philharmonic and raised their two beautiful sons, Peter and Scott. As the boys were growing up, Lesley discovered a passion and talent for physical training, running, swimming and biking. As she did with all her life interests, Lesley dove deep and began competing in half-marathons, marathons( including the Pikes Peak Marathon), and ultimately triathlons. This would lead her to assist and manage many local competitions and ultimately to create her own race. In 2002, she founded the Boulder Backroads Marathon and Half Marathon. Under Lesley’s direction these events enjoyed tremendous success for local and regional runners and leave a lasting legacy of her extraordinary leadership and inspiration.
Survivors include her husband Tom Kinder and sons Peter and Scott of Boulder. She is further survived by her brother Hayes (Janet) DeLisle of Great Falls, Montana, niece Casey DeLisle, and aunt Carol Meyers of East Brunswick, N.J; sister-in-law Jaime (Mark) Zukowski and nephews Daniel and Thomas Zukowski.
Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services in Longmont.
A memorial service is planned for June 20th, 2014 3:30 p.m. at Unity of Boulder Spiritual Center
