

Lillian was born on April 25, 1940 in Queens, New York, one of two daughters born to Alice Lucie (Perrenod) and John J. Smith. At the age of 7 Lillian moved in with her aunt Catherine in Flushing. Lillian lived with Catherine Bastian and her cousin Patricia for her remaining childhood. She grew up in Queens and graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in Queens. Following, Lillian attended Queens College, City University of New York, where she studied education. Lillian taught at several schools with most of her career at St. Ann School in Flushing, New York for 35 years.
Lillian married John V. Vito and together the couple welcomed three sons, John Patrick, James Joseph, and David Paul. They raised their family in New York. John passed away in January of 1992.
Lillian was a woman of great faith and regularly attended Mass at St. Mel’s Roman Catholic Church in Flushing. In 2019, she moved to Longmont to be closer to her son James, who cared for her in her final years. Lillian was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Smith, husband, John Vito, and by her sisters, Patricia Ardizzone and Catherine Sheehan. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy and is survived by her sons, John Patrick Vito (Eileen), James Joseph Vito, and David Paul Vito (Audra); grandchildren, Sarah, John, Stella, Lilah, Lilly, Ellie, Jill, David, and Val; nieces, Cathy Ardizzone and Patty Shaffner; and by her nephew, Michael Ardizzone.
