Linda was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1943, and spent her early years there with her mother Lucy while her father Dave served in the US Army during WWII. Shortly after his return the family relocated to Pueblo, Colorado and subsequently to Colorado Springs. Linda was raised in the Springs with her siblings Judy, Dorothy, and David, and attended St. Mary’s High School where she excelled as a student. At St. Mary’s she made lifelong friendships and met Donald Strauch – it was there that the Prom Queen and football captain began a romance and continued partnership anchored in respect, devotion and love.
Upon high school graduation, Linda attended Colorado State University where she earned her BS degree in Microbiology. She worked for several years as a Medical Technologist at St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver. Linda and Don were married June 20, 1964. After the birth of their children Aaron and Kara, Linda stopped working full time and devoted herself to the kids’ well-being and education, and improving the community in which she lived. She volunteered her time and efforts to assist in the classroom and organize book fairs, served on the board of Young Audiences in Denver, was an integral part of the Denver 7th Avenue Historic District and was an active member in the League of Women Voters. Once the children were older, Linda turned back to work and retaught herself a much transformed field, and finished her career at Swedish Medical Center.
Soon after her retirement, she and Don moved to Longmont and she focused on making new friends, her hobbies, and beloved grandchildren Tara, Will, and Maddy.
A life-long and avid reader, she amassed an impressive library, and the friends she made in bookclub were both lasting and important. Although fiction was the primary genre, the house was also filled with works on history and travel. She was able to further pursue the international travel bug later in life and see much of Europe, with multiple visits to her favorite destinations of Italy and Paris.
Her true passion was engaging in crafts of all kinds – sewing, quilting, and beading were the most common, but she was enthusiastic to try any new endeavor. From her corner sewing room on the second floor of Columbine Street to the basement craft haven at Hover Woods, she was always making and creating something new, and more often than not it included her favorite color of purple. Wall-hung quilts were often on display at the Gilpin County Arts show, not to mention on the walls of her home, and she was very proud of the purses and totes she made and sold to fellow Longmont residents.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lucille Williams. She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Strauch; their children, Aaron Strauch (Farish Haydel), and Kara Cannon (Jeff); siblings Judy Sharrock (Leland), Dorothy McEachron (the late Larry), and David Williams (Susan); and grandchildren Tara Strauch, Will Strauch, and Maddy Cannon.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Howe Mortuary & Crematory, 439 Coffman St, Longmont, Colorado, on May 18, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow, also at Howe Mortuary.
Donations in her name would be welcomed at TRU Community Care (trucare.org), the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (theaftd.org), or any charity close to your heart.
