

Lou was born on October 25, 1928 in Bremen, Kansas to Albert and Christina (Dierking) Bluhm. She grew up on the family farm near Herkimer, Kansas and graduated from Marysville High School. Following high school she worked at various banks in Kansas, Nebraska and Maine. She was introduced to her future husband, Oral Beckmann, in a bank vault when they both were working at a bank in Lincoln, Nebraska. They were married on June 5, 1949 in Herkimer, Kansas.
Lou and her family moved to Longmont in 1961. She was an active member of the Longmont United Hospital Auxiliary. As a volunteer, past president and co-manager of the hospital gift shop she logged 22,000 hours of service. She was also busy as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader and loved supporting her children and grandchildren’s sports and various activities. Lou was a member and past president of PEO chapter FD. She was an avid sports fan, especially the CU Buffs, Rockies and Broncos. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and had been a Stephen Minister.
Preceding her in death were her sisters; Hilda Koeneke, Myrtle Koeneke, Velma Duensing and a grandson Grant Martin.
Surviving are her husband Oral of Longmont; children Sue (Charles) Stromquist, Thomas (Amy) Beckmann of Longmont and Jean (Robert) Martin of Wheat Ridge; grandchildren Luke (Shannon) Stromquist, Ryan (Brianne) Stromquist, Blake (Emily) Stromquist, Katie (Grant) Haley, Tyler Beckmann, Emily and Cole Martin; great grandchildren Jacob, Royce, Mikaela, Mason, Presley and Elin Stromquist and her brother Vernon Bluhm of Escondido, California. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 9 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3rd and Terry, with Pastor Steve Berke officiating.
