
Loren Ed Embree, 72, formerly of Longmont, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007 at his home in Anderson, South Carolina.He was born on April 14, 1935 in Lyons, Colorado to Clayton Embree and Ruth (Reed) Embree. He was a graduate of Longmont High School and married Dorlene Nickel on November 6, 1955. Mr. Embree worked for Cyclone Filter Company and Gould Battery before opening up Embree Automotive in the late 1960s.He was a builder and owner of open wheel as well as late model racing cars and was a member of the Colorado Auto Racing Club for many years.He married ""Mike"" Herbal in 1973 and they moved to San Diego, CA where he worked as a welder for several years. They returned to the Longmont area in 1976 as owners and managers of The Red Door Tavern. Loren also worked for Flatiron Paving Company.In 1985 he moved to Anderson, SC to purchase a machine shop, which serviced mostly racing engines including some used in NASCAR. He married Francis Slager in 1996 in Anderson. At the time of his death he was retired. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with friends.Mr. Embree is survived by his wife, Francis, of Anderson, SC; a daughter, Niki Weitzel and her husband, Jerry, of Berthoud; a step-daughter, Corine Martinez; and mother-in-law, Matilda Rael both of Longmont, CO. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Keren and Sonja Weitzel, Lauren and Riley Embree, and Richard and Jordan Martinez.He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Benny Lee Embree; and his son, Mark Alan Embree in September of this year.Cremation and private services were held in South Carolina.
