

Lorraine Elmquist, 93, passed away June 7, 2017 at Life Care Center of Longmont.She was born April 12, 1924 on the family farm southeast of Loveland to J. Arthur and H. Evelyn (Carlson) Anderson. Lorraine graduated from Loveland High School in 1942 as class valedictorian. After high school, she attended Barnes Business College in Denver. Her first job was as secretary to the Rotary Club of Denver. On November 16, 1947 Lorraine married Raymond Elmquist at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont. They made their home on a farm in the Rinn community east of Longmont, where she lived until recently. She was a hardworking farm wife, a loving mother, family caregiver, and homemaker. Lorraine was a member of First Lutheran Church for nearly 70 years, where she served on church council, as a Sunday School teacher, was a member of First Lutheran Women and the Patches and Projects group. She was also a member of the Rinn SOS (Society of Service), Mead School PTA, and the Country Club.She enjoyed extending gracious hospitality in her home, church, and community. She was an excellent cook and was well-known for her Swedish rye bread. She enjoyed doing needle work. Her family was a great joy in her life. Lorraine had 13 sets of aunts and uncles and many cousins, all of whom were very special to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, and brother Everett Anderson.Lorraine is survived by three sons, Gary, Stan (Julie) and Artie, two grandchildren, Reed and Karen, sister-in-law Joan Anderson, nieces Beth Ann Pettyjohn, Cindy Balzer, Candy Hubbard, Marla Kauerz, nephew Bryan Anderson, and many loving cousins, extended family, neighbors, and caring friends.Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 pm Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with family present to greet friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, June 17, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, followed by interment at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at the church.
